Autumn Kodachrome

AUTUMN BECKONS WINTER
It is the Fall season once again and the mighty forest has begun to shed her magnificence. As yet another hardy winter solstice rests patiently upon a cold horizon, so does the tender days of autumn slowly come to a close. This once fertile and lush forest has now but for a brief moment, burst with color as both fauna and flora prepare for the hardest season of all. Lately, the squirrels gather their food in much greater quantities as the distant sound of the beaver can be heard as they put the finishing touches upon their lodges. The last of the heron are now gone having migrated to warmer climates. Even the fish have moved to deeper water to slow their heart rate, conserve energy and wait in stillness. As the last of the forest leaves yield their homily of green hues to a pantheon of gold, amber and brown, the mighty elk blasts her cries for summer; her breath now visible in the crisp evening air. The long dark is upon us now.
